Trusting God through cancer wasn’t as easy as I thought it was going to be.
It’s funny, when I was a kid I was convinced that if I pulled a silly face and stood into the wind my face would stay like that, forever.
I know, bless my little cotton socks!
The trouble is, there are a million other not so crazy things I’ve believed that aren’t so cute and innocent. Maybe you’ve found yourself living by some of these mantras.
☑️ Fake it to you make it is the path to success
☑️ Just look at a carb and you’ll gain 20lbs
☑️ Good things happen to good people and vice versa.
And one of the biggest of all…
☑️ The moment we meet Jesus we get an automatic, supernatural, ability to trust God.
I believed that one for YEARS!!
I’d beat myself up and couldn’t figure out why I struggled to trust him the moment something happened.
When my mum and sister died from cancer he didn’t seem that trustworthy and when I was diagnosed just six weeks later my default was to trust the trifecta of my stiff upper lip, brilliant oncologist, and the keep calm and carry on attitude.
But no, that’s not how this trusting God thing works.
If there’s one thing I’ve discovered it’s that trusting God doesn’t just happen the moment we meet Jesus. It’s a daily (and often minute by minute) choice we make as we face the world head on.
So let’s stop beating ourselves up when we struggle to trust him.
When it’s not our default let’s quit assuming our faith is featherweight.
So what are we meant to do?
Well, if there’s one thing I’ve discovered over the years it’s that Trusting God isn’t about me and what I can do but about him and what he can do and will do. Click To Tweet
Living this one realization on the daily was a game changer.
