Does your inner critic shout to be heard? Will it drown out even the loudest words of encouragement?
If so, you need to meet my friend Renee. Like me she believes life doesn’t have to be pain-free to be full but she also says embracing our inner critic (not locking it in a cupboard or sealing it with duct tape) is the best way to quieten its voice. I’ll admit I was skeptical – my inner critic is so loud it can startle herds of grazing gazelle on the plains of Africa while I sip a cup of tea at home – until she told me more.
She’s passionate about embracing our inner critic because she lives this journey every day. I took some time to chat with her and I thought I’d share our conversation, her story, a few fun facts about this spirited woman, and why she wrote her new book, Unloved: Finding Freedom by Embracing Your Inner Critic. Enjoy!
Lipstick or mascara? Neither. I don’t need makeup!!
Romantic comedy or action thriller? Action. Action. And more action!
Salad or fries as your side? Both? But, it seriously depends on if it’s a juicy burger (fries) or anything else (salad).
Batman or Spiderman? Spiderman all the way. Bats creep me out.
Winter or summer? Summer. I love wearing ALL the bright colors.
Snow White or Cinderella? Belle from Beauty and the Beast! She always has a book in her hands. I’m not pale nor do I enjoy cleaning. I rather enjoying reading. 😉
Singer or dancer? Playing piano while singing.
Last book you read? Whispers of Rest, by Bonnie Gray. Changed my life.
Person you’d like to meet most? When I became an author I wanted to meet so many other authors, and when I did I realized they were all ordinary individuals being extraordinarily used by God. This helped me not freak out so much when I met other women who had changed my life. However, there was this one time I met Jennie Allen and I picked her up when I gave her a hug. She was like, “Not even my husband can do that!” Ha!
