Is it possible to find God’s abundant life when life’s threatening to overwhelm us?
I was in London, England last week and had a blast, but one of the most exciting things I did was speak at our old church, St Mary’s Bryanston Square (the one we planted CityChurch from in 2007) in the heart of London.
It was great to be back hugging old friends and making new ones, but what got me totally pumped was the way God showed up and moved. I shared my cancer story and how I believe we can thrive and not just survive life’s storms and He came and met people in the middle of their pain and hurt. It was brilliant.
Because the truth is, life can be hard, really hard. Whether it’s cancer, depression, infertility, losing our jobs or parenting teenagers, life is stormy, and often the waves overwhelm and threaten to sink us.
Yet Jesus said He came that we might have life to the full, even abundant life.
So what’s with the storms, Jesus?
Are we meant to ride them out, merely hanging on and surviving until all is calm, and then have abundant life?
I don’t think so.
I believe we can thrive, and have an abundant life, in the midst of life’s storms.
I’m not talking about a happy skippy, perfectly pain free life. That’s denial and we all know denial’s a river in Egypt(!). I’m talking about finding love, joy, peace, connection, community and all the other good stuff that makes life full, right in the middle of the raging waters.
The question is how?I believe we can thrive, and have an abundant life, in the midst of life's storms. The question is,… Click To Tweet
And that’s exactly what I spoke about at St Mary’s on Sunday, when I looked at Jesus Calms the Storm in Matthew 8:23-27.
