Thank you again to everybody who has been in contact with us and is praying for us. It means so much to us to have some many wonderful people standing with us at this time.
I would summarize today as being that reality continues to dawn. Having spent much of last night reading up about cancer and treatment etc… we had an appointment with the surgeon. He agreed with the oncologist that Nix was going to need six weeks of radiation & chemo and then a break of around eight weeks before surgery. Then another break and then five months of chemo.
Our biggest surprise today is that the surgery is going to be much bigger than we had been expecting…in order to make sure the cancer is removed he is planning to take out a big chunk of the colon!
Hard to know exactly what to do with that news but we are revisiting our plans for the year ahead and making some changes!
Of course Spring break starts this weekend. While Niki is still in good shape (pre chemo etc…) we are building in some fun plans for next week around the various appointments with radiation specialists and a second opinion from another oncologist. By the end of next week I imagine we shall have a very clear plan for when the treatment will start and what it is going to look like.
Meanwhile, thank you all so much for your prayers and your friendship. Niki remains in really good spirits and is amazingly calm and at peace about things. As we pray we continue to sense God’s presence and comfort and sustaining hand at all times – thank God for that!
With much love Al
